"Imprint — Flowing Traces" is an interactive installation centered on "time perception". The work explores time from a psychological perspective, focusing on the "time perception distortion" that occurs in different emotional and focused states — when anxious or focused, time seems to stretch; when relaxed or immersed in entertainment, time quietly accelerates.
The installation uses "sand" as its core medium, leveraging its fluidity and malleability to metaphorize time's transience and trace-leaving qualities. The overall form is a circular black sand platform approximately 30cm in diameter, with a sand dune in the center and hidden mechanical structures and sensor systems underneath.
When viewers approach, ultrasonic sensors trigger the device, and the sand dune gradually collapses and flows through vibration and rotation, presenting an "awakened" state of time; when viewers move away, the device slowly returns to stillness, but irreversible traces remain on the sand surface.
This "distance equals engagement" interaction logic transforms the audience from bystanders into participants in time's flow. The work emphasizes that time does not simply pass in one direction, but cyclically generates through continuous covering and reconstruction.
Trying to control time only accelerates its loss, while true "traces" come from acceptance and settling
