In university dormitories, a typical multi-occupant shared space, differences in schedules and living habits often turn into latent environmental stress. At night in particular, noise has a direct impact on sleep quality. Yet without objective standards or an effective communication mechanism, residents often swing between silent endurance and open conflict.
This project proposes a dormitory coordination system based on behavior visualization. Through a public electronic display and environmental sensors, originally invisible noise levels and routine states are translated into a readable "Quiet Index". The system automatically enters monitoring mode at night and provides real-time feedback on the dorm environment. It uses non-directional prompts, avoiding the assignment of blame to any individual and reducing interpersonal pressure.
In terms of participation, the project adopts a layered design that reduces app dependency. Even when some users are not connected to the system, the shared screen can still deliver basic information and guide behavior. The proposal attempts to build a soft balancing mechanism between individual freedom and collective order, giving the shared space a capacity for self-adjustment.
Make noise visible, make routines understandable, and let shared space learn soft self-regulation
